Jules Wright
Jules Wright is the creator and director of one of London's most exciting and prominent artistic buildings, The Wapping Project or "baby Tate".
She directed her first main stage production at the Theatre Royal Stratford East in May 1979, starring the then unknown Tom Wilkinson. In 1981 she was appointed as a Resident Director at the Royal Court Theatre, and soon after became Artistic Director of the Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court. From 1984 to 1986 she was Artistic Director of the Liverpool Playhouse (Willy Russell and Alan Bleasedale were her Associate Directors). She returned to the Royal Court as Associate Director and then Deputy Artistic Director where she remained until 1992. One of the leading directors of her generation, her career in the UK, other than the Royal Court, has included productions at the Old Vic, Royal Exchange, Royal Festival Hall, West End transfers, theatre, opera and television (BBC) and international work in Europe, Australia and South America. Her reputation for work with contemporary playwrights has been recognised in a series of national awards.
Jules Wright is Australian and a Doctor of Psychology.
